  • CamboKidz Guide to Summer Camps 2026

Our updated annual directory of fun and educational programs for kids in and around Phnom Penh during the school summer break From mid‑June to mid‑August, most international schools in Phnom Penh close their doors for the long summer break - even as parents continue with their regular work schedules. That’s when summer camps step in, offering families a practical way to keep children engaged, active, and learning while school is out. Schools, academies, and learning centers across the city offer specialized summer programs: sports camps that build confidence and teamwork, creative workshops that spark imagination, and themed weeks that let kids dive into dinosaurs one day and outer space the next. Most camps welcome children regardless of whether they’re enrolled at the host institution, making them a great way to “test‑drive” new learning environments before committing to a full year. Programs are typically bookable by the week, with flexible themes and skill‑building tracks to suit different ages and interests. Our directory includes dozens of camps with instruction in English or French, open to both Cambodian and expat families. Listings can be sorted by name, theme, organizer, or start date - making it easy to find the right fit. Look for the red “Book Now” button to reserve a spot instantly through CamboKidz. Whether you pay online or in cash on arrival, there are no booking fees. And because new camps are added regularly, we recommend checking back often to see the latest options.

  • 15 Terrific Preschools in Phnom Penh (2026)

Choosing the right first step in a child’s educational journey is a significant milestone. Whether you are looking for a cozy boutique environment or a campus with sprawling amenities, this guide is designed to cut through the noise and help you find the perfect fit for your family. In preparing this year's guide, the CamboKidz team researched and vetted specialized early learning centers across the city. While our initial goal was to curate a tight shortlist of just 10 locations, the sheer number of exceptional programs we encountered made it clear that a larger list was necessary. To ensure we didn't overlook several standout institutions, we have expanded this year’s selection to 15 Terrific Preschools. While many local preschools do not publicly disclose their pricing structures, we have made it a priority to include published fees for those that make them available. For the others, our guide provides a framework to help you navigate your own inquiries. You'll find the complete 2026 list and details on our updated International Prechools page (click the image below to redirect automatically).

  • 30 Great International Schools in Phnom Penh (2026)

Phnom Penh’s education landscape has transformed dramatically in recent years. A growing number of high-quality international schools have opened their doors, while established institutions continue to upgrade their programs and facilities. For parents seeking private education, the capital now offers an impressive range of choices to match different budgets and curriculum preferences. As part of our annual school survey, CamboKidz reviewed dozens of brochures, spoke with families of school-age children, and toured campuses across the city. This year’s shortlist of 30 international schools highlights not only those that consistently meet our standards, but also several prestigious newcomers that stood out during our research. We strengthened our evaluation process by introducing new benchmarks - facilities, extracurricular offerings, and student diversity - areas of particular importance to parents weighing their options. These refinements ensure the list remains both current and comprehensive. For parents, the abundance of options can feel overwhelming. Our annual list aims to simplify the decision-making process, spotlighting schools that not only meet high standards, but also reflect the diverse needs of Phnom Penh’s growing community. You'll find the complete 2026 list and details on our updated International Schools page (click the image below). 📆 Mark your calendars! • Chess in the City: Where Kids Can Learn, Practice & Play

Cambodian players compete in a chess tournament organized by Phnom Penh Checkmate at IFC in 2024 In Phnom Penh, the clicking of game pieces is as much a part of the city's soundtrack as the hum of a tuk-tuk. Chess is having a moment in the capital. Far from being a dusty pastime for the "bored," it’s become the ultimate brain-boost for the city's youth, teaching patience and strategic thinking in a world of instant gratification. Whether your kid is still figuring out “how the horsey moves” or is already dreaming of a Grandmaster title, here is a guide to help navigate the local scene.   The School Circuit: School is the ideal starting point. Many of the city’s top international schools have their own chess clubs. While these generally aren't open to the public, they inspire broader interest that spills over into local chess clubs, online platforms and tournaments open to all. Keep an eye on the   PPAC8 league  schedule; these inter-school matches are where the local schoolyard rivalries really heat up. There’s also the upcoming  Rapid Chess Team Championship  (March 28-29, 2026), a two-day tournament where high school and university teams battle for the city crown.   💡 Tip:  Encourage your child to try  Ouk Chaktrung  (Cambodian chess). Many schools offer both; the skills translate beautifully, and it’s a great way to connect with local culture. The Social Scene: Sometimes you just want a friendly game and a good atmosphere. These hubs are perfect for rubbing shoulders with the city's established chess community. Weekly Chess Connect @ IFC Weekly Chess Connect:  Held at the Institut Français du Cambodge, this is the city's beating heart for social chess. It’s free and open to all levels. ⌚Saturdays (2 pm–7 pm) 📍 Institut Français du Cambodge (IFC) , Street 184, Daun Penh   The Golden Hornbill Golden Hornbill Meetup:  A relaxed Sunday evening session in BKK1. It’s free, friendly, and ideal for beginners wanting a low-pressure environment. ⌚Sundays (5:30 pm–7:30 pm) 📍 Golden Hornbill, Street 278, corner Street 51, BKK 1   The Playroom The Playroom:  A dedicated board game hub that provides plenty of chess sets for practice. While they haven't hosted a formal tournament in over a year, we’re hopeful they'll bring back their popular chess and Ouk events soon. 📍 The Playroom , 9 Street 287, Tuol Kork   Online Communities: If you want to stay updated on the latest tournaments or find a last-minute practice partner, the local Facebook scene is essential:   Phnom Penh Checkmate:  Promotes and organizes local and regional chess tournaments, and is the group behind the weekly Chess Connect meetups at IFC.   Cambodia Chess Community:  This public Facebook group of nearly 1,000 members is the primary digital notice board for the city. It’s the best place for families to connect with other enthusiasts, ask for coach recommendations, and stay informed about upcoming meetups.   Phnom Penh Chess Club:  Once a key organizer for weekly chess meetups, this Facebook group has been in hibernation since the Covid pandemic. Most of its members have since migrated to other local groups, but its final update — expressing hopes of relaunching regular sessions — remains a reminder that the city’s chess community is always evolving and ready to grow.     Cambodia Chess Federation:  The national governing body of chess and Ouk Chaktrung in Cambodia. Follow them for news on national championships and major FIDE-rated events. Cambodia Chess Federation event      The Pro Pipeline: For those trading "casual play" for a "competitive edge," these international organizations offer structured paths to improvement. Kingdom of Chess:   The gold standard for rigorous local training. They take students through a "Roadmap" from basic maneuvers to complex endgame theory and are the primary organizers for monthly Rapid and Blitz tournaments in Phnom Penh.   Premier Chess Academy (PCA):  While PCA is a global organization (headquartered in the US/India), they have a dedicated presence in the region through hybrid learning. Locally, they specialize in connecting Cambodian students with FIDE-rated coaches for online 1-on-1 and group sessions. They act as a bridge for local kids to compete in the Rising Stars online championships and international circuits that aren't always available on the ground in Phnom Penh.   More Resources: While the chess scene in Phnom Penh is largely driven by schools and local meetups, CamboKidz offers a few general community tools that can help parents navigate the logistics of any hobby, including chess: Tutors Network:  If you’re looking for 1-on-1 instruction, our newly launched tutor platform is a simple way to find local educators. It’s free for both parents and tutors to join, offering a flexible way to browse profiles, message instructors directly, and schedule lessons that fit your family’s busy calendar.   Parent Forum:  This is a free, informal space where members can share tips, recommendations and experiences. It’s a great place to drop a post if you’re trying to track down a high-quality Ouk   set, get the scoop on upcoming tournaments, or simply want to connect with other families who are raising young chess masters.

Their pediatric team knows how to turn a potentially traumatic tooth tale into a smooth, drama-free experience. The waiting area is more boutique hotel than clinic, and the multilingual staff are masters of the gentle touch and soothing words. Parents rave about Roomchang’s all-in-one approach: preventive care, orthodontics, and even sedation options for the more complex stuff. If your kid’s got dental anxiety, this place is practically a spa day in disguise.   Malis Dental Clinic Malis Dental Clinic brings Japanese precision and Cambodian warmth to the dental game. At its Exchange Square branch, the vibe is calm and the staff are zen-like. From gentle cleanings to preventive checkups, everything is delivered with a reassuring smile and a steady hand. Pachem Dental Clinic Bright, bubbly, and totally kid-approved - Pachem is a hit with families. Pediatric care is front and center, with dentists who speak fluent “kid” and know how to keep things light. Case in point: the adorable green dinosaur-shaped dental chair that instantly puts kids at ease and turns treatment time into playtime. Sedation options are available for the more nervous kiddos, and the staff’s patience is legendary. Whether it’s a first-time visit or a cavity fix, kids leave smiling - and often clutching a sticker like it’s a badge of honor.     Jordan Petra Dental Clinic Jordan Petra is a hidden gem for families seeking gentle, personalized care. The cozy setup and soft-spoken staff make it a haven for kids who might be wary of the dentist’s chair. While not exclusively pediatric, the team is great at adapting to younger patients. Flexible scheduling and a stress-free vibe make this a solid pick for regular checkups and minor fixes.   Have a favorite local dentist who is great with kids? We'd love to hear about it! Share your tips & experiences in our Parent Forum .

  • CamboKidz Guide to Summer Camps 2025

Our annual directory of fun and educational programs for kids in and around Phnom Penh during the school summer break The school year is winding down and parents planning to stay in Phnom Penh over the summer break, from mid-June to mid-August, are starting to think about summer programs for their little ones. Many schools operate on a limited capacity during the break, offering special day “camps” with instruction and supervised activities for children and teenagers. In addition, some of the city’s most esteemed sports academies, music schools and learning centers have their own tailored summer programs.   The camps typically run over several weeks and are priced and bookable on a weekly basis. For some, each day brings more instruction and progress toward mastering a skill. Others have themes that change – so your little one might learn all about dinosaurs during the first week, space exploration on week two, then maybe dabble in art on the third.   The majority of schools that offer summer camps let children of suitable age enroll, even if not registered at the school. This makes the camps an excellent opportunity for parents to try out a new school (or several schools) before committing to a full year.   You’ll find dozens of summer camps on our list. All include instruction in English or French, are suitable for both Cambodian and expat children, and are sortable by name, theme, organizer or start date.   CamboKidz offers online bookings for many of the summer camps that we list on our site. Look for the red “Book Now” button to secure a spot for your child. And whether you choose to pay online or cash on arrival there are no booking fees.   Our camp list keeps growing, so check back often.

  • 30 Great International Schools & Nurseries in Phnom Penh (2025)

Phnom Penh’s education landscape has improved significantly in recent years with new quality international schools added and existing schools improving their programs and facilities. Parents seeking a private education for their children now have a wide range of choices to suit their budget and curriculum preference. As part of our annual school survey, CamboKidz reviewed dozens of school brochures, spoke with parents of school-age children, and – as much as possible – toured the campuses of education centers throughout the city. Our shortlist of 30 international schools and nurseries, the ones that met our selection criteria and impressed us most, remains unchanged in 2025. There have been a few changes, however, as some of the schools and nurseries on our list have opened additional campuses or added grades since our last survey. More expansions are coming this year, and several new prestigious schools are slated to open their doors, adding even more options for local and expat parents. • 10 Free Outdoor Playgrounds for your Kids

Children play at Komsan Park playground, Aeon Mall 3 If there’s one thing every kid loves to do every chance they get, it’s going outside to play! While Phnom Penh does not have the over-the-top playgrounds you’ll find in the West or certain Asian capitals (we’re green with envy, Singapore), it does have a fair number of public outdoor playgrounds where your kids can gather, burn off energy and have fun. Here’s our roundup of 10 “essential” outdoor playgrounds in Phnom Penh with swings, slides and climbing structures – and all for free.   Komsan Park Occupying the roof of a shopping mall, this spacious outdoor play and activity area should be on every parent’s list. In addition to a decent playground, you’ll find a free-to-use splash pad, zipline and bouncy pads. Coconut Park Playground Sure it’s just two towers connected by a wobbly bridge, but your kid’s imagination will transform it into a magical castle or pirate ship. We love the wooded outdoor setting with clean bathrooms just a few steps away.   Meanchey Avenue Playground Still in mint condition, this bright and cheery addition to the playground scene is tucked away behind a retail center and easily overlooked. Pity.   Wat Phnom Playground A perfect place for parents to unwind after climbing to the top of Wat Phnom. The elements have done a number on the floor tiles, but the equipment is holding up.   Urban Village Playground The tiny playground here was a convenient stop for families visiting Factory Phnom Penh,  just a few steps away, so when it closed we were gutted. But now a new, bigger and better playground has been built on the site and we’re just hoping it will also remain open to the public. TK Avenue Playground A charming pocket-sized playground that is ideal for parents bringing their kids to the outdoor mall, or living nearby. Olympia City playground A small but fun playground that attracts an ever-changing group of toddlers as their parents go to and from the nearby retail and commercial buildings.     Kid Garden Botomvtey One of the biggest and busiest public playgrounds in the city, so it’s unfortunate that its maintenance budget is as sparse as its shade.      Takhmao Playground Playgrounds are even sparser once you leave the city center, but this riverfront outdoor park and play area is a long-time local favorite. Athina Kid Park This small and clean outdoor play area for the kids is located in one of the city’s biggest gated communities… but the playground is open to the public. Outdoor Playground Locations

  • CamboKidz Guide to Summer Camps 2024

Our annual directory of school and recreation programs in and around Phnom Penh during the summer school break With the school year coming to an end, parents are looking for fun and educational programs to keep their kids busy over the summer break. Fortunately, a growing number of schools and training centers in Phnom Penh offer day programs with instruction and activities for children and teenagers. While these are not “summer camps” in the traditional sense (there are no tents, campfires or marshmallow roasts), they all offer a supervised program or modified curriculum for kids during the summer school break, which falls between early June and mid-August depending on the school. The focus of these camps vary. Some are geared towards toddlers (lots of fun activities like singing, dancing and games), while others offer an instructional program for sports, music or stage. And some are aimed at helping kids catch up or get ahead in academics. But whatever the theme, all the camps seem to add an extra element of relaxed fun to the summer school break setting. CamboKidz has collected information from dozens of summer camps around Phnom Penh. All camps in our list offer instruction in English or French, and are suitable for both Cambodian and expat children, and are sortable by name, organizer, date and location. Our list keeps growing, so check back often.

  • CamboKidz Guide to Winter Camps 2024

Our annual directory of school and recreation programs in and around Phnom Penh during the school winter break The school winter break is approaching and families not planning to travel are looking for activities to keep the little ones busy during the holidays. Many parents are opting for winter “camps”, which offer fun and educational programs to fill the time their kids would usually be in school.   Winter camps typically run morning and afternoon sessions from Monday to Friday with a packed agenda of activities for your kids according to the theme of the camp. Some camps are designed for budding artists, others focus on sports and team play, while still others may aim to give your child an academic leg up during the holiday.   Whatever the theme, your kids are going to enjoy the camp sessions and are sure to make new friends.   CamboKidz has gathered information from winter camps in and around Phnom Penh. All camps in our list offer instruction in English or French, and are suitable for both Cambodian and expat children, and are sortable by name, organizer, date and location.   And the more we look, the more winter camps we find, so be sure to check back often.

These Phnom Penh nursery schools put an emphasis on play-based learning and creativity for children under 5 years old. What’s more, is all of them offer half and full day programs with healthy lunches and some nap time to help children make the transition from home to a school environment. Note: We’ve updated this article and added new content Gecko Garden   This small nursery school applies a Waldorf-inspired learning method that helps foster children’s empathy, independence and imagination. Mixed-age classes allow children to learn from one another, with younger kids looking up to and imitating the older kids until it’s their turn to be the leaders and help their younger classmates. There is a real sense of family among the students and staff, and the school is rightfully proud of its beautiful outdoor activity area. Acacia International Preschool Get your kids off to a multicultural early start at this popular nursery school, which offers bilingual French and English instruction. The focus is on play-oriented learning, and your kids will have the run of the indoor and outdoor facilities. The emphasis on unstructured play – and an ever-changing assortment of toys and interesting objects – helps develop kids’ imagination and social skills. And they’ll have a blast climbing all over the wooden playground in the leafy outdoor yard. Lilliput Academy   Caring and attentive staff score top marks for this small nursery school and daycare, and give the place a warm and welcoming family feel. Your kids will enjoy participating in group singing, dancing, learning and games, and of course, colorful arts & crafts projects. Children split their time between the well-appointed indoor spaces and a safe enclosed outdoor play area, making new discoveries every day.   Orange Crest Preschool This will be the inaugural year for this Singapore-modeled nursery school and we’re excited to see what’s in store. We love the rich wood furniture and bookshelves, spacious grassy yard and outdoor play gym.   Play Space Montessori Having lots of room both indoors and outdoors is a definite plus for a Montessori setting, but so is having lots of interesting toys and activities for kids to do. Active tots with inquisitive minds will enjoy it here, and after making new friends they can stay on together for the first years of grade school.   Ikigai Kids There’s always something fun and interesting for your little ones at this drop-in daycare and nursery. The energetic staff here fill each day with art, music, dancing, cooking, exercise and even a bit of fun science. Each day brings new adventures, and there’s often a weekly or monthly theme. Conveniently, they offer half-day morning and afternoon programs, and stay open even during the school holidays.
