I'm surprised, CIA FIRST International School's not on here. We’ve been at CIA FIRST for a while — my kid’s really happy there. Teachers are great and there’s a good mix of academics + activities. They offer both international and Khmer programs, plus a Chinese program (HSK prep), so there’s a lot of choice depending on what you’re looking for. They’ve got a few campuses around the city too, which makes life easier.

Listing a new school

Hey everyone, I'm looking to list a new school on your website.

They've been active since 2012 and focus on children aged 3 to 12 years old.

Their website is https://dkschoolhouse.com/

If you could please direct me to the right people to get it listed, I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers!

Hi Boris,

We are continually looking for quality international schools to add to the listings in our Schools directory https://www.cambokidz.com/education?mode=schools

It's important to note that there is no charge for listing on the CamboKidz site. Our listings are merit-based.

All schools listed on our site are deemed suitable for both Cambodian and expat children, that is they include an international curriculum, primary instruction in English or French, and a sizable ratio of foreign students. We will be broadening the criteria in the days ahead to include many fine schools in Phnom Penh that narrowly miss the full criteria but deserve mention.

We are familiar with DK Schoolhouse (and what makes it unique), and will consider it for a future update. We may reach out with some questions or to arrange a short visit as part of the review process.

Best regards,

CamboKidz Team

Top 30 list

Hey, just curious as to why CIA wasn't in the top 30? Also, there's no such thing as a 'British' curriculum, or Cambodian, it's the Khmer General Curriculum, which many schools actually adapt or don't deliver in full. This is an important consideration for parents. No international school here is using the UK National Curriculum, some use elements from different key stages, the iGCSE (usually the international version, not the UK version) or AS - A levels, or just base a learning unit around topics found in the UK. Cambridge is a distinct curriculum that shares similarities with the UK National curriculum, but again, it's not British. I think it you're going to publish details of fees and curriculum, they should definitely be accurate. Happy to help out!

Hi Sarah,

You are absolutely correct. In researching the list, we did not come across any schools offering the UK National Curriculum, but rather elements of it. We should have been more clear to note that our table lists the nationality of a curriculum, or the teaching model, upon which the school’s program is based, so it’s “a” British curriculum and not “the” British curriculum.

Similarly, the American and Canadian curricula offered by international schools in Phnom Penh are not recognized national curricula, but are based on the curricula of individual states or provinces.

In response to the points you raised, we have reworded the curriculum note in the column key and hope it will be clearer to readers.

It’s best not to think of our list as a Top 30, as it was not our intention to rank international schools. Selections for the list were based on our own experiences, research, and discussions with the local parenting community. And we're aware the criteria we set excluded many fine schools whose student body – as best we could tell – was almost entirely Cambodian and/or a single foreign nationality.

We really appreciate your input and love to hear from all CamboKidz users about recommendations for Phnom Penh schools, or any advice to help parents when deciding on an education provider for their children. It helps improve our site's content and we'll take it into consideration for our next update.
