About
A visit to this historic theater is always a memorable experience both for its visually intriguing architecture and the fine music, dance and drama performances that are staged here.
The Chaktomuk Conference Hall (aka Chaktomok Theatre) was built by local architect Vann Molyvann in the 1960s and is one of the city's historic architectural landmarks. Like its iconic building, the theater's seating layout is fan-shaped with rows radiating from the stage.
The theater is only open during performances, which are organized by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and are invariably excellent. Many of the performances feature traditional music, dance and drama, and some have beautiful costumes and sets.
This can be a great theater for the whole family as it is far less formal than its lavish interior suggests, and the performances can be both educational and entertaining.
