Batik is a traditional Indonesian art form that involves the creation of decorative patterns on fabric using a wax-resist dyeing technique.
This weekend the classes focus on "Mandala" symbols. Mandalas are circular symbols with a focus on radial balance and symmetry. They have roots in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing wholeness and the universe. Mandalas are often used in meditation and spiritual practices. So mandala style batik painting combines the intricate process of batik with the symbolic and geometric designs of mandalas.
